Earlier this month, Total Care RX was proud to sponsor and attend the TSC Alliance 2026 TSC World Conference. As one of the largest gatherings dedicated to Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), the event brought together leading clinicians, researchers, healthcare teams, advocates, patients, and families from around the globe to improve TSC care and advance understanding of the educational, transitional, financial, and emotional challenges that affect patients and caregivers.
“It was inspiring to see so many people come together in support of families affected by TSC and a reminder of how important collaboration between providers, pharmacies, and industry partners is to improving care,” said Christine Chu, Pharmacy Manager of the Neurology Department at Total Care RX. “I was encouraged by the breakthrough research shared and the clinical trials underway to advance treatment options and improve the quality of life for our TSC patients. What meant the most to me was meeting some of our TSC patients in person and hearing how Total Care RX has positively impacted their lives.”
Christine’s experience reinforced a common theme heard throughout the conference: improving outcomes for individuals living with TSC and other rare diseases requires more than effective therapy. It also requires timely access, ongoing education, and coordinated support that evolves alongside each patient’s unique needs.
The Evolving Needs of Patients & Caregivers
For many individuals, living with TSC or another rare condition is not defined by a single diagnosis or prescription. Their care journey is ongoing, involving multiple specialists, regular monitoring, and long-term medication management. As treatment plans evolve, so do the needs of patients and caregivers.
A 2025 survey from the Minnesota Rare Disease Advisory Council found 44% of respondents experienced challenges transitioning from pediatric to adult care, while 27% were initially denied access to an out-of-network specialist.
For providers, these findings emphasize the importance of looking beyond clinical care needs. Helping patients and caregivers navigate changes in care, maintain treatment continuity, and connect with the right resources can make a meaningful difference in long-term outcomes.
The Medication Access Challenge
Continuous access to specialty medications for the treatment of TSC and other rare diseases is often complex. Prior authorizations, insurance requirements, and affordability concerns can all delay treatment initiation.
Addressing these hurdles requires coordination among providers, payers, specialty pharmacies, patients, and caregivers. Choosing an experienced specialty pharmacy partner can help streamline access, reduce administrative delays, and keep treatment moving forward.
At Total Care RX, we operate as an extension of the care team. Rather than simply filling prescriptions, we provide guidance on insurance and financial assistance options, submit timely and accurate insurance requirements, manage prior authorizations, and provide 24/7 adherence support to help patients stay on therapy.

The Importance of Education & Advocacy
As new therapies emerge and treatment plans evolve, patients and caregivers benefit from clear information and trusted partners who can help them navigate treatment with confidence.
Education helps patients better understand what to expect and how to remain engaged throughout treatment, while advocacy helps address barriers that might otherwise interrupt care.
Patients are more than prescriptions at Total Care RX. We are committed to advancing research, expanding resources, and connecting support communities for patients with TSC and other rare diseases. Our proactive approach to specialty pharmacy services helps us identify challenges early, align care teams, and keep treatment moving forward.
Supporting Long-Term Success Through Specialty Pharmacy
A specialty pharmacy with experience in complex neurological diseases helps support long-term treatment by:
- Navigating access challenges.
- Coordinating benefits and prior authorization.
- Providing proactive refill outreach.
- Reinforcing patient education.
- Maintaining communication across the broader care team.
As we remain engaged with the TSC community, Total Care RX continues to refine the way we support care for complex and rare diseases. However, our commitment remains the same: helping patients and providers navigate complexity and access through coordinated care, communication, and a patient-first approach designed around better outcomes.
